"Bryn in Hat" - A Labor of Love
This 16"x20" acrylic on canvas painting holds a special place in my heart. It's my 21st painting, completed in November 2022 after spending over a month bringing it to life.
The Journey:
Bryn was a difficult dog - being a popular breed, I suspect he was taken from his mother too early, he had many behavour issues and was really a one person dog. That person being me. He had the heart of a wolf, and this painting captures one of my favorite moments of him in his little elf hat, taken back in 2014 when he was still fluffy.
The light in this piece was a challenge, lots of contrast. I spent quite a bit of time studying the reference image and pushed through the doubt I had that the colors and light could really be as harsh as what I thought I saw. In the end I was happy with the results.
The Custom Frame:
I designed and carved an original frame from Cherry wood using my CNC router. I embellished the frame with elements of Bryn's character. He really did have the heart of a wolf, and he was my friend. I lost Bryn in January of 2018
