"Cashew in Hat" - My Best Work To Date

This 16"x20" acrylic on canvas represents a milestone in my artistic journey. Completed in November 2022, it's my 22nd painting and my second Cashew painting since I started this adventure.

The Story:
Cashew was a good dog, and this painting captures him in his festive elf outfit - the perfect companion piece to my "Bryn in Hat" painting. When I look at these two side by side, I see more than just paint on canvas; I see the personalities and spirits of two special dogs who meant so much.

A Matched Set:
This piece was specifically designed to hang side by side with my previous "Bryn in Hat" painting on my Wall of Dogs. They're a matched set - two dogs, two hats, two stories told in acrylic. The composition, size, and style were carefully planned so they would complement each other perfectly.

The Custom Frame:
True to form, I couldn't just use any frame. I designed and carved an original frame from Cherry using the same process as I did with the Bryn in Hat piece. Using a CNC, I carved a detailed 3D frame with elements of Cashew's character in it. He liked to sing, certain sounds would set him off and he'd howl like a wolf. So those were the elements this frame had to have.

A Personal Best:
Of all the paintings I've completed, this one holds a special place. It's one of my favorite pieces so far, and it represents my best work to date. There's something about the way the colors came together, the expression in Cashew's eyes, and how the whole piece just feels "right" that makes this one stand out. He really did have eyes that where that big.

Now these two paintings - Bryn and Cashew - hang together, side by side, a permanent tribute to two wonderful dogs. We lost Cashew in 2021; he died of heart failure at 7 years old. Why do they put bad hearts in good dogs?
